Catholic Education Week: Five Marks of Catholic Education

The five Marks of a Catholic School are used, to varying degrees, across Alberta to describe and celebrate Catholic education. The 5 Marks of Catholic School was introduced to Catholic educators in Alberta in 2014 at a Catholic Education symposium hosted by Alberta Catholic Schools Trustee Association. In 2015 the Council of Catholic School Superintendents of Alberta (CCSSA) wrote a companion document for Catholic teachers titled: The Excellent Catholic Teacher.  The goal was to “make real” and operationalize the marks of a Catholic school.

Educators can teach and lead our schools more faithfully and fully by deepening our understanding of the Marks of a Catholic School. All stakeholders can participate in the communal work of authentic Catholic education.

At Albert Lacombe Catholic Elementary School, we strive to meet these marks throughout the school year. You can access the five marks (dimensions) of Catholic Education for our school this year by clicking on the following link: Catholic Education Week 2023.
