6L: Social Studies

  • The Rights and Freedoms guaranteed by the Charter include:
  • a) Fundamental Freedoms: having the freedom to choose and have different religion, thought, expression, association
  • b) Democratic Rights: citizens have the right to vote for representatives to govern them.
  • c) Mobility Rights: to enter, remain in, or leave Canada. Can move and earn a living in any province.
  • d) Legal Rights: includes such things as the right to a fair trial by an impartial court.
  • e) Equality Rights: no discrimination on grounds of race, national or ethnic origin, religion, gender, age, or mental or physical disability
  • f) Official Language Rights: makes English and French the official languages of Canada
  • The Charter mainly protects our rights as individuals but also collective rights (rights of a group).
